It’s summer, that means sunshine, pools, lakes, and the beach – swimming. Visiting a community pool or public body of water on a hot day is an inexpensive way for a family to have fun, get some exercise, and be social. It’s a great outing for families living on the economic edge. But alarmingly what’s missing from these great outings is the ability to swim.
The Centers for Disease Control reports drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death for children between 1 and 14. More in your face is the statistic, about 10 people die from drowning every day and two will be children under the age of 14.
Humans, unlike most other mammals, must learn to swim. That means lessons and most lessons cost money.
Let’s Help Kids provides kids with resources to pay for lessons for swimming, sports, dance, art, music, and more. The range of activities that excite kids is endless.
Unlike music or art lessons, learning to swim can save your life or someone else’s. The next time you cannonball into the pool, paddle board across the lake, or body surf at the beach, be thankful if you know how to swim. Make a donation to Let’s Help Kids – it’ll improve the life of a child in need, and could save a life.
